RICS & the Living Wage

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors has published a new report featuring case studies focusing on Strategic Facilities Management and has been authored by International Workplace (formerly Workplace Law).

One of these six case studies looks at the Living Wage as a key area for professionalism in Facilities Management and features Guy Stallard (Head of Facilities from KPMG) & Richard Sykes (CEO of ISS) championing their experience of working with the Living Wage.

This supports the work that the Living Wage Foundation is currently doing with its Service Providers and specifically those linked to all areas of Facilities Management. We have a growing list of Service Providers from this industry engaged in our Recognition Programme. Our Service Providers are not just responding to the chance of a Living Wage tender, but are changing the market by actively promoting the Living Wage to all they do business with. They believe that the Living Wage makes business sense and prove this by committing to pay the Living Wage for all those who work for their own core business and premises.

Putting the well being of employees first is evidently boosting morale and delivers added value for all concerned. We have seen that both Customers and Service Providers notice a better service as a result of paying the Living Wage, other benefits include a higher retention of staff, increased productivity and a reduction in absenteeism.
