How long does it take to be accredited?

It will vary according to the size of your organisation and the types of contracts you have. Some employers can complete their application form straight away and we will aim to process their accreditation within ten working days. Others may have a project of work to do to identify which contracts are relevant and when they are due for renewal. Large organisations can often be accredited within 6 months.

What is phased implementation?

In order to be accredited an employer must pay all directly employed staff the Living Wage and have an agreed plan in place for third party contracted staff such as contracted catering, cleaning, security, parks or ground staff. Phased implementation means that the Living Wage is rolled out across third party contracts over time, as the contracts come up for renewal. These contracts are included in the licence agreement as 'milestones'. The Foundation will check in with you periodically to ensure the milestones are on track.

What is the accreditation process?

The accreditation is a signed licence between the Foundation and the employer. In order to receive a licence and become accredited please fill in an enquiry form here:

We will send you a link to an online licence form and a guide to implementing the Living Wage. Once you have ensured your organisation satisfies the requirements please complete and submit the online form. Please note that this will require an online signature.

Loraine Martins

Loraine has recently joined Network Rail as its first Director of Diversity and Inclusion, and will lead on making the rail industry a more open, diverse and inclusive business. Network Rail is responsible for the rail infrastructure, which includes engineering, the maintenance of tracks and flagship stations like Kings Cross. It has 34,000 staff throughout the UK.

Peter Kelly

Peter Kelly has been active in campaigns for social justice for more than 20 years, both as a worker and activist. He joined the Poverty Alliance as Policy Manager in overall day-to-day management of the organisation, as well as leading on the policy and campaigning goals of the network. Peter also represents the Alliance in a variety of forums and networks including Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector, the Scottish Drugs Forum, Energy Action Scotland and others. He is currently Vice President of the European Anti-Poverty Network.

Chris Goulden - Chair

Chris manages the Poverty Team in the Policy and Research Department at Joseph Rowntree Foundation. He specialises in poverty, welfare and employment policy areas and quantitative research methods. Chris used to manage and conduct social research on drugs and crime at the Home Office and helped develop the alcohol harm reduction strategy at the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit in the Cabinet Office.
