Third Sector

The Living Wage Foundation's vision for the third sector is one where organisations are working together to put an end to low pay and insecure work in the sector.

Our joint mission is to encourage third sector organisations to play their part in raising awareness of and addressing in-work poverty in the sector, and for funders to enable not-for-profit organisations to provide a decent standard of living by going beyond the government minimum and provide a real Living Wage and Living Hours.

Low pay in the Third Sector

Our report looks not only at the scale of low pay in the sector, but who is most impacted by it, the benefits of paying it within the sector and what the main drivers of low pay are. The report also identifies possible solutions.

REBUILDING AN INCLUSIVE THIRD SECTOR WITH THE REAL LIVING WAGE

During Living Wage Week 2020, we brought together third sector organisations and individuals from across civil society to celebrate the Living Wage movement. ‘Rebuilding an Inclusive Third Sector with the real Living Wage’ celebrated the over 2000 third sector organisations who are already doing the right thing by workers and made the case for why the Living Wage is needed to build a more sustainable and equitable sector.

Central to tackling in-work poverty in the third sector, is the role of funding. Ranging from local authorities to charitable trusts and foundations, corporate, science and capital funders, our Living Wage Funders are committing to tackle low pay by encouraging the organisations they support to pay the real Living Wage. Find out more below about the scheme and find a list of our Living Wage Funders here .
