This Living Wage Week (10–16 November), we’re celebrating the difference the Living Wage makes for hundreds of thousands of people across the UK – for workers, families, businesses, and communities.
To help celebrate and spread the word about the impact of the Living Wage, we're looking for members of our network to help bring the movement to life by creating and sharing some short, self-filmed video clips during Living Wage Week.
They don’t need to be super polished or fancy – we just want to hear real stories from real people about the difference the Living Wage has made to them.
You could:
- Share why your organisation is proud to be a Living Wage Employer.
- Highlight the difference it makes for your staff, customers or community.
- Share a group message from your team
- Ask your staff if they would be up for sharing their story of difference it's made to them
Post your videos on your own channels during the week, tag us on socials and use the hashtags #LivingWageWeek and #TheDifferenceItMakes so we can share your message.
Together, we can show the real impact of the Living Wage and celebrate thousands of employers across the UK leading the way in shaping work that works for everyone.
Where to film?
- Choose a quiet location with a neutral, non-distracting, and well-lit background. Filming in your workplace or community space can help bring your story to life, as long as it’s not too busy or distracting.
- Position yourself so your main light source is facing you (in front of a window can be good) and ideally avoid harsh overhead lights. Your marketing department may even have a ring light you can borrow but this isn't necessary.
- Turn off any devices that might buzz or ring in the background, and avoid echoes and background noise if possible
How to set up your camera
- Set up your phone, camera, or laptop on a tripod or steady surface.
- Ideally, film in landscape mode and position the camera at eye level, with the lens looking straight at you (not up or down).
- Leave a little space above your head in the frame and centre yourself in shot.
- Clean your camera lens before filming for a clearer image.
Filming Etiquette
- Look towards the camera lens as much as possible.
- Sit or stand straight with relaxed shoulders, keeping your hands still (to the side or folded in front of you).
- Speak slowly and clearly. Don’t worry if you pause, it will actually make your video easier to edit.
- Relax! Imagine you’re talking to a friend through the screen.
- Start and end your recording with a second of silence looking straight at the camera. This gives you more flexibility when editing.
- While we love a fabulous 'fit on our feed - you may want to avoid wearing anything that's super shiny or any noisy jewellery that could interfere with filming and audio.
Final Tips
- If you have time you could do a quick test first, just to check everything looks and sounds okay.
- Don't worry if you stumble or get interrupted, just start again. There's no pressure here!
- Keep your answers short and punchy. 30 to 60 seconds is plenty for social media.
- It can be helpful to jot down a few bullet points of what you want to say to jog your memory but try not to read from a script - natural is best.
Script / Suggested topic prompts
- What difference has the real Living Wage made in your life, workplace, and/or community?
- Can you share a story of something that became possible because of the real Living Wage?
- How has paying or receiving the real Living Wage changed the way you feel about work?
- What would you say to someone thinking about joining the Living Wage movement?
- Why do you believe the real Living Wage matters for society as a whole?
- One suggestion is to start your answer by rephrasing the question at the beginning (eg 'The Living Wage has made a difference to me because....').
Above all, have fun, be yourself and only share what you feel comfortable with! We look forward to hearing and sharing your stories celebrating #TheDifferenceItMakes on our social media channels from 10-16 November 2025.
